Zoo trip

I have to admit that I was impressed by the local zoo.  If you haven't been, I highly recommend it.  It was small enough to cover in a morning. but had an impressive number of animals.

Cooper was excited from the start because the first animal he saw was a peacock.  This one was without tail feathers, but he still loves them.

 The flamingos were a hit.

This guy got a slight scream out of me as he sailed overhead with his breakfast in his mouth. Glad he didn't drop it.

A very protective Black Swan momma.

The kids said he was giving a thumbs up.
The orangutans were hilarious ... like old men just hanging out.

Quite possibly, the stinkiest creatures I have ever seen, the Galapagos turtle.

Happy to be upwind from the rhinos and the turtles.

The longest tongue we have ever seen.  He finally got brave enough to stick his hand out there.

The giraffes were a big hit with all the kids.
 Another of his favorites.

A fun surprise to see these little guys play.

Look carefully and you will see the little guy hanging on.  She stopped to pose for me.

The first comment from Cooper was that these were spider monkeys, and he was right.  They looked just like spiders on the fence.

All in all, it was a great field trip.  The kids did really well and wore themselves out before the spring music concert later that night.

So proud

Cooper received two awards in one week.

He was selected as the Music Citizen by his music teacher.  Her comment was that "He's such a great kid."

Then he was selected to receive the Fruit of the Spirit in Chapel this morning.  I surprised him by sneaking in. He had no idea I was there until right before they called his name.   There are nine fruits: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  When we heard he was getting the award, I was curious which fruit(s) he would be recognized for because we have needed some emphasis on patience and self-control lately.  I am happy to see him recognized for joy and goodness.  All the teachers comment on how happy and affectionate he is.  I hope these are traits that continue, and I love that the school uses this to recognize these.

Receiving his award from one of his favorite teachers, Mr. C.

He was a little shell-shocked (and I love the hand in the pocket).

The pictures aren't the best, but they capture him so well.  For once, he looked small surrounded by elementary and middle school kids.  Only a few more weeks of school, so fingers crossed for smooth sailing.

Wordless Wednesday - One tired guy

In all of his 4 and a half years, I think he has only fallen asleep on the couch a handful of times. He was worn out.

What Cooper does

I cough and pop and burp a lot. I just do ... as he heads to the bathroom. Oh, the life of a mom to a boy.

Mother's Day 2012

One of the best Mother's Day presents I have gotten so far.

Not sure how I feel about what I know a lot about.  But love that he loves when we play Candyland and tickling and kissing him.

Bloggy blahs

Where have the last few weeks gone?  I was sick for laryngitis for a week (which everyone loved but me), then I traveled to Las Vegas for a week (work conference = double blah).  Yes, I was still sick, but Vegas is just not my place.  At the end of the trip, I did finally have a little time to see the Dancing Fountain at the Bellagio.  And I treated myself to a spa pedicure before I hit the plane back home.  Other than those things, the trip was a ton of meetings and networking.  Rather than Vegas, I almost feel like these conferences should at least be in a boring city so you didn't feel like you were missing something more exciting while sitting inside all day.

Oh well, at least I took some cool pictures.  Maybe just a couple.

 Colorado

 A great dragonberry mojito.

The tulip garden at the Bellagio.

Hopefully the bloggy blahs are on their way out.  We did get some great news from a dear family member on a healthy prognosis after a year-ling illness.  It helps to have those moments to put things in perspective.
