Wordless Wednesday - Sick Dude

Please excuse the wordless-ness of this.   I think this may be the only picture I took this week.  We are now into the second week of the crud with an official diagnosis of pneumonia.  Definitely hoping for a speedy recovery for this little dude.

A very long weekend

Our weekend started on Wednesday night when Cooper came home with a fever.  I should have known something was up when he was quiet in the car, because that never happens.  He laid on the couch the rest of the evening with a fever.

He stayed home Thursday with Daddy who also caught the same bug. They watched lots of old school cartoons, all while running a fever of 102.  By the evening, he was the energizer bunny.  See how fast the pages are moving on his book.

Thank goodness he finally crashed.

Friday was more of the same, which meant we missed Papa's 70th Birthday Party. We very disappointed to miss celebrating, but I hope the partygoers are happy we kept our germs to ourselves.

Cooper did decide he wanted to do lots of potty training that day, so who are we to stop him.
Pay careful notice to the missing cushion, and I will let you connect the dots on why the cushion was missing.

By Saturday, we were all a little stir crazy.  I won tickets to the Squirrels Baseball game, so we packed up with a fever-free kid.  The weather was unusual in that the humidity finally broke, and we had a great time.  The people we sat around were nice and friendly, and gave Cooper all kinds of kid-friendly stuff.

That picture sums up so much of the weekend.

By Sunday, everyone was back to normal except we discovered a new Cooper.  Terrible Two Cooper.  If anyone finds our happy, loving, easy-going child, please send him our way.

Making sense of things

Okay, my happy-go-lucky, excellent sleeper, and normally "normal" toddler has been anything but normal since he came home on Wednesday. He has slept in two-hour fits and waking up screaming for the last three nights. We are all sleep-deprived, and having flashbacks to his newborn days, and even those weren't this bad.

When I picked him up on Wednesday, he told me his teeth hurt and pointed to his molars. His 2 year molars had already broken through, so I thought maybe they were dropping the rest of the way and causing him pain. We gave him some ibuprofen and just let him be cranky. His eating has been off lately, but we were attributing that to normal toddler patterns.

Well, all that changed this morning. He told me his mouth hurt and pointed down his throat. Meanwhile, I had been checking his ears to make sure the tubes were doing their jobs. Take a close peak at his tongue (and ignore the smile because it didn't last long).

Yes, that is almost a white tongue and throat.  So, off to Patient First we go for some antibiotics.

After a nap and the medicine, he was happy to play his MP3 player.  A 2 year old with a MP3 player.  He is very technologically advanced.

That smile is the real deal.  I only wish we had known what the real problem was much sooner.  Maybe next time.

Breakfast of champions

Last summer, the diet of Michael Phelps was the talk of the town. A typical breakfast was "a five-egg omelet, two cups of coffee, three fried egg sandwiches, three chocolate chip pancakes, French toast with powdered sugar, and, to top it all off, a bowl of grits."

Well, the breakfast of Cooper yesterday morning was two scrambled eggs, most of a banana, two servings of blueberries, 1/2 English muffin with strawberry jam, and a blueberry muffin. No, he is not an Olympic athlete. He is almost a two year old.

But, it gets better. Soon after this breakfast, Papa took him to daycare where they were serving breakfast. When he walked in, his teacher put a plate down for him with yogurt and a muffin. In Papa's words "You didn't have to tell him what to do. He sat right down at the table and started eating." Where does he put it?

Today didn't go quite so well. Cooper had many silver dollar pancakes at home. I'm not sure what he had for his second breakfast at daycare, but I have no doubt that he ate whatever was offered. Right after breakfast, they go outside to the playground. Cooper is one of those kids whose face turns red within minutes of running around. So, it's safe to say he was very hot with the 87 degree day we had. Before they transition the kids back inside, they sit them down and feed them ice pellets (think slushy Coke ice). After which, Cooper proceeded to throw-up.

All I can say is thank goodness for Nana and Papa, again. He got to spend the rest of the day hanging out ... getting more spoiled by the minute. Exactly what grandparents are supposed to do. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday.

Sick Days with Nana

Cooper was sent home from school last Tuesday with a high fever. Reinforcements were called in and Nana arrived Wednesday afternoon. In usual Cooper style, he didn't look too sick, but definitely was not his normal rambunctious self. After a few days of puzzles, books, Noggin, and lots of cuddles with Nana, he was raring to go back to daycare on Monday.

Watching the Wonder Pets with Myrtle. Yes, he is wearing a Wonder Pets shirt with a cape. He thinks he is quite the stuff with this shirt on.

All the farm animals have reported for duty, and Cooper has accurately identified the correct sounds for each.

Hanging with my best buds, Georgia and Ben. Don't tell Nana I am sitting on the dog beds again. She hates when I do that.

Eating the requisite Jello since I am sick. Let's just say I polished it off.

Again, not looking too sick ... but curled up on the couch in my PJs with a bear and a blanket means something is not quite right.
