Some Cooperisms

Just found these in my draft folder from early October.

"Let's rock and roll."

"Mommy, you're my best friend."
"Why Cooper?"
"Because you gave me gummy fruit."
Glad I know where I stand.

"Eww Cooper.  Don't pop when I am wiping your bottom."  Can't believe I had to say that one, and glad I don't have to do that job anymore .... most days.

"Mommy, I flushed the toilet for you so you don't have to smell my stinky poop while you wipe my butt."  Thank you Cooper for being so thoughtful.

When J put in Star Wars, "You are the best daddy in the whole world."
One of the Stars Wars ships in the opening scene. "Daddy, that's a floating vacuum cleaner."
Cooper now runs around humming the theme song.  Terrific.

When J and I were hugging tonight, Cooper said "I want to get in there." He wanted us to pick him up for a group hug. Then he said "You're the guys I love." Melts my heart.
Mommy, You look like a princess in that red dress.  You are my princess and my Daddy's princess.

Thoughts by Cooper

I wish I had a moon grabber so I could grab that moon. I would put it in your car. And eat it. It tastes like moon candy.

It might be too big and break your car. If my moon grabber doesn't reach, I could tie a string around it to help reach.

You never know what you might find.

Have you ever run across this in your house?

Look at the sly smile there.  This is the great thing about a preschooler.  You just don't know what they are going to do next.  I will save the pictures of him running around in his undaroos with the scuba gear on for his yearbook picture or his weeding montage.  If I can wait that long.

He also stole my bowl of edamame (in the pod) and ate the the entire bowl.

And then needed a little snooze (faker) on the patio cushions.

Meanwhile, you also don't know what they are going to say next.  We always point out Mini Coopers.  I told him that if we didn't have him, I would be driving one but I couldn't have one because he wouldn't fit.  The other night as we were driving home, he pointed one out.  He then said, "There's a Mini Cooper.  I don't fit in there because my legs are gorgeous."  What?  Where does he come up with this stuff?  But at least he keeps us laughing.

Growing up before you know it

It was a normal Saturday afternoon. I was doing laundry.  J was doing some random thing.  Cooper was moving from activity to activity.  He has a digital camera that he got a for Christmas a couple of years ago.  It is one of those kid's versions that has games, and he just figured this out.

In between loads of laundry, I noticed that he had gone in his room and closed the door.  When I went in, he was laying on his stomach and playing one of the games.  He looked at me so sweetly and said, "Mommy, I just need some space."

What???  What three year old says that?  Is he going on thirteen already?  I did let him have his space, but with the door open.

Recent Cooperisms & the Christmas Spirit

Lately Cooper has turned into a little bit of a clown.  We never know what he is going to say or do next.  I hear that it goes with the age.  Let's hope J and I survive it.

As I am driving him to school one morning he told me that he wanted to go back home.  When I asked him why, his response was "Preschool makes me nuts."  Where the heck did that come from?  Oh, maybe out of my mouth.  Well not the preschool part, but I know I say lots of other things make me nuts.

When I told J the story, he said that Cooper told him the same thing when they where in Target on a hunt for a prelit Christmas tree.  Target makes you nuts?  I would agree during the holiday season.

Cooper is really trying to understand this Christmas thing going on all around him.  I am struggling with how to teach a three year old about Jesus being the reason why we have Christmas.  I bought a board book that I am hoping will lead me into a better connection, but I welcome advice on how to make it make sense.

He asks where is the Christmas season?  Is Santa watching?  When is Santa coming?  He is singing bits and pieces of Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.  He can also list off most of the reindeer.

J has him convinced that Santa is watching him through the small Christmas tree in his room.  I am hoping for no long-term damage with that one.

When he sees Christmas lights, he says more each time he sees another house.  He is very happy with all the lights his Dad has put around the house.  I just realized I need to take a picture of that one.

He also thinks that Santa is coming to put the star on top of the tree.  So, I think we are going to wait until Christmas Eve to add the star.  There's nothing wrong with a little Christmas magic.  Right?

The Ladies Man

J, K, and I took Cooper to O'Toole's tonight for dinner.  We didn't get seated in Cooper's favorite waitress' section, but she did come by the table shortly after to great "Super Cooper."  They have this funny face routine that she does and Cooper falls over himself laughing and flirting with her.

Well, he was on top of his game tonight.  She told him he was a cutie.  With a little prompting from J, Cooper told her she was a hottie.  Then, completely on his own, he leans in and asks her "What's your name?"

Oh boy!

Then he asks her for her digits (with help from Dad).  I am in so much trouble.

By this point, our waitress is standing at the table and Cooper starts flirting with her too.  When they walked away, Cooper asked "Where did my ladies go?"

He did share some hugs and kisses before we left.  Everyone was a smiles, Cooper and his ladies.

The Name Game

Cooper singing, "It's time to play the name game, the name game.  What's your name?"

Me, thinking about saying Jill, but thought it might confuse him, so I said, "Mommy."

Cooper singing, "Your name is Mommy, Mommy, Mommy.  No Mommy, your name is Jill."

Me, "How did you know that?"

Cooper, "Daddy told me.  And his name is John."

He has is it all figured out.

Cooperisms

Cooper's favorite band, "Hootie and Goldfish."  And he can recognize them on the radio.

"Mommy, I rescue you.  I a police officer."

"Mommy, I older than you.  I older than Daddy."  Me, "Hold are you?"  "I two and a half."

After running non-stop throughout the house for at least five minutes, "Mommy, I not driving you crazy."  That's what you think buddy.

"Mommy, Cinderella lives in that castle."  Me, "I used to work in that castle."  Cooper, "With Cinderella?  No, mommy."  I need to take him in there to see his reaction.

My ladies

So most of you know I joined a women's running group this spring called Run Like a Mother.  I convinced a few of my friends to join me.  Other than me getting hurt before our race, we had a great time and managed to get in better shape and run a great 10K.

Along the way, we experienced some Cooper funnies.

J has told Cooper since he was born that "Ladies love him.  Other men want to be like him."  Don't ask why because I have no idea.  Must be one of those strange father/son bonding moments.

The Saturday before the race, I took Cooper to cheer on the women in the group for the last training run.  As 25 women start walking down the block to the starting point, Cooper looks at me and says "My ladies, they left me.  My ladies, they run away."  He had this quizzical expression on his face, like how dare they.  Now keep in mind, he only knew 3 of the 25 women.  My ladies, really.

I do understand that he picks up things based on what we say.  A few days later when I took him in to daycare, I asked him if he said good morning to the ladies.  Yes, I know I said "ladies."  So what did Cooper say?  "My ladies, good morning."

What am I going to do with this kid?  At least he keeps us entertained.

Conversations with Cooper

On the way to school, this is the story as told by Cooper. He is holding a spatula. "I gotta spatula."

"I cooking."

"I cooking waffles."

How am I going to explain to him that he doesn't need a spatula to make waffles? Maybe another day.

***

So on the way home that night, we are waiting at a stoplight. A policeman pulls over a car. Cooper exclaims, "Pretty ites mama." Somehow, I don't think that driver thought those lights were too pretty.

****

And finally, "I see a big farm mama."

Now keep in mind that there are no farms between daycare and our house. So I ask him, "What else do you see Cooper?"

"I see a cow. I see a pig."

"What does a pig say?"

"Ick."

Must be a sick pig.

It's never dull with that little guy.

Cooperisms

Hopper = Grasshopper

I say "ow".  Cooper says, "Mama, you okay?" with a complete look of concern on his face and patting/lightly stroking my arm or cheek or whatever else he can reach.

Announcing everything he sees - Tractor, Bus, Bird, Plane.  Over and over and over again.

"Mama wanna kissa your face." as he pulls my face closer to kiss my cheek.  I am trying to hold on to these super cute moments.

"I popping" (otherwise known as tooting) which he thinks is hilarious.  Let the boy jokes begin.

But the sweetest, J took Cooper to school today. They played the "I love you more" game on the way.  He sounds so sweet saying it.

Needless to say. We love the little guy.

The words we hear

Cooper is speaking words and sentences like crazy lately ... much of which we can understand. There are still those random ones that we have no idea of what he is saying, but it keeps us guessing.

A few days ago, I was wearing my little twistie towel on my head after the shower. I went in to get Cooper dressed that morning. He patted me on the head and said "You gotta pretty hat Mama." Needless to say, it started my morning out right.

Some of his favorite sentences are "I did it" and "What happened?" We are hearing more "peez" and "thank you." He gets a kick out of saying "Bess you Mama" whenever I sneeze.

In honor of the upcoming holiday, we are hearing lots of "Cristmas tee," "Anta Claus," and "Dada put up pwetty ites."

Tonight, it wasn't a phrase or a sentence that cracked us up ... just one word. Unfortunately, he has inherited my skin and his eczema is really acting up. After J put him in the bath, he lubed him up with all the appropriate creams and lotions. One of the worst spots was his bottom, which J put Boudreaux's on, and then put him to bed. Several minutes later, he started crying. When I went in his room, he was standing there with his pants in one hand and his diaper in the other. He was crying the word "Butt." I guess his poor little bottom was hurting him so bad that he just couldn't stand it. We helped him out and he drifted right off to sleep.

J and I are happy that he is able to use his words to tell us what he needs or wants, and especially when he is able to vocalize his excitement.

What word, phrase or sentence from a loved one brings the best smile to your face?

One day at a time & other rambling thoughts

Yes, it's almost a week after the holiday, and I still haven't blogged about our trip to visit my parents. I have lots of adorable pictures, and some quirky stories, but am missing the motivation to blog.

J has done a terrific job getting the outside of the house decorated, so now the tree is on the agenda for this weekend. Hopefully, we will be taking Cooper to the Grand Illumination and the Christmas Parade over the weekend. That is, if the weather and the toddler cooperates.

Speaking of cooperating toddlers, he is testing his limits as any two year old should do. We are seeing crying fits in the car every morning and evening, not the best way to start or the end the workday. Speaking of work, I am moving to a new office this week, so I will post pics of terrific new view shortly.

On a slightly funny note, Cooper is full of new sentences. This morning at 5:45 am it was "I gotta flashlight."

Okay, now hopefully I can find that missing motivation to get those other pics up. Feel free to share some motivation through a comment or two.
