Christmas Eve

We had a houseful of family and friends for Christmas this year.  Both sets of Cooper's grandparents and my sister and her husband came for a visit.

 Spreading reindeer food with Dad.

Making sure he had maximum coverage so the reindeer could find his house.

Grammy reading the Polar Express to other family members who couldn't be with us.

Cooper convinced everyone in the room to help him with a very difficult puzzle.  They were happy to pitch in and help the little guy.

I made everyone take a test play a game to see how many logos they could come up with.

Cooper putting out his first milk and cookies for Santa.  He chose a decorated Christmas tree from Uncle Dave and a peanut butter blossom.  Luckily Poppa told him to only give Santa a little milk because he couldn't drink too much at one house.

A big squeeze for Mom before he headed off to bed.  Right before he went, we heard jingle bells in the backyard.  This momentarily frightened him, but then he was already to be asleep.  After a reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas from Dad, he was down for the count.

Wordless Wednesday - Bounce House Fun

In honor of Cooper's best girl friend's birthday, we spent a not so quiet afternoon at one of those bounce house places.  The kids had a blast.

Cooper's Christmas List 2010

Cooper thinks he has this all figured out.  Maybe he does, but J and I haven't a clue.

When I picked him up from school, his teacher shared this story with me.  She said she wrote it all down because he was so animated about it.  He was remembering how Santa Poppa showed him the bells from his sleigh with their recent visit.

He has since changed his order to a big box of snowballs, which we neglected to go out and gather after the latest snowfall.  Maybe we can still stick one in the freezer.  But we are stumped on the "Big Daddy Present."  And now another kid in his class wants one too.  I'm sure his parents are very pleased with Cooper.

We had a discussion trying to figure this present out.  He said that it was big and orange, and had a star on it.  Still no clue.  After this went on for several days, I asked him if maybe it was a bike.  His response, "Yeah!"

We are keeping our fingers crossed.  He said this morning that he wanted lots of presents under his little tree in his room and the big tree downstairs.  either way, all this should be a very interesting Christmas morning.

He has been so funny and animated with all the stories he tells us.  He recently spent part of a snow day playing with Play Dough while reciting the Night Before Christmas with intermingled verses of Jingle Bells.  Cooper also thinks that Santa is coming to put the star on top of our tree.  We are definitely leaving that for a little Christmas magic.

Hope you are having a wonderful time prepping for the family time to come.

Gingerbread House Time

Cooper's class spent some time putting together gingerbread houses.  Let's just say that lots of icing, graham crackers, gumdrops, marshmallows, and other yummy treats decorated more than just the houses.  Several tummies were full after this adventure.

Cooper paced himself pretty well between decorating and consuming.

Recent Cooperisms & the Christmas Spirit

Lately Cooper has turned into a little bit of a clown.  We never know what he is going to say or do next.  I hear that it goes with the age.  Let's hope J and I survive it.

As I am driving him to school one morning he told me that he wanted to go back home.  When I asked him why, his response was "Preschool makes me nuts."  Where the heck did that come from?  Oh, maybe out of my mouth.  Well not the preschool part, but I know I say lots of other things make me nuts.

When I told J the story, he said that Cooper told him the same thing when they where in Target on a hunt for a prelit Christmas tree.  Target makes you nuts?  I would agree during the holiday season.

Cooper is really trying to understand this Christmas thing going on all around him.  I am struggling with how to teach a three year old about Jesus being the reason why we have Christmas.  I bought a board book that I am hoping will lead me into a better connection, but I welcome advice on how to make it make sense.

He asks where is the Christmas season?  Is Santa watching?  When is Santa coming?  He is singing bits and pieces of Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.  He can also list off most of the reindeer.

J has him convinced that Santa is watching him through the small Christmas tree in his room.  I am hoping for no long-term damage with that one.

When he sees Christmas lights, he says more each time he sees another house.  He is very happy with all the lights his Dad has put around the house.  I just realized I need to take a picture of that one.

He also thinks that Santa is coming to put the star on top of the tree.  So, I think we are going to wait until Christmas Eve to add the star.  There's nothing wrong with a little Christmas magic.  Right?
