Happy 5th Birthday Dear Cooper

Dear Cooper,

Where have 5 years gone?  It seems like you were just a chubby cheek baby not so long ago.  You are one funny but independent (hard-headed kid).  I never know what you are going to say or do next, but it is guaranteed to either make me laugh or aggravate me.  You never fail on that front.  You are smart and give your JK teacher a run for her money, but your afternoon teacher (K) keeps you in line.

You haven't had your checkup yet, so I'm not sure of your height/weight.  But it's safe to say you are head taller than all the other 4/5 year olds.  You continue to be the gentle giant looking after the smaller kids.  I hope that is a role you always keep.  You are often still a love bug, which your Dad and I try to remember to take every hug, kiss, and cuddle every chance we get.

I'm going to try to remember to ask you these questions for the next couple of years.  I can't say I was surprised at any of the answers, but you often had your funny twist.

We interrupt this hiatus for ...

Sorry for being missing for the past little while.  The end of the summer and beginning of the school year have been a crazy haze but we are trying to catch up.

Stay tuned for the recent antics.

Go Heels!

We took Cooper down to Chapel Hill this weekend to see his first football game. And it was J's idea.  Don't tell him, but I saw him cheering for the Heels.  Maybe one day we will fully convert him to a Southerner.

But the purpose of this trip was to indoctrinate the little man.

 He met Ramses.

Got his face painted and ate some pizza in the shade before the game because it was 85 degrees.

 Acted goofy in the stands.

He got to see the Victory Bell up close (a UNC/Duke tradition).

 More goofiness.

Passed completely out.  I was ready for a nap too.  Way too much cheering but those Heels beat the Hokies 48-34.

We fed the little guy and then went on the search for the perfect souvenir.

Our second day in Chapel Hill was 30 degrees colder and rainy, but that didn't stop us from hitting some of my favorite landmarks.  Fifteen painted cows are spread across campus as a benefit to the Children's Hospital as part of Cow Parade.

Looks like I have a bull-headed child.

Cooper took a Rocky victory lap up the Dean Dome's steps.  I can't wait for him to an experience a game here.

And our last stop on campus was a visit to the Old Well.

 Love the mischievous guy.

Hopefully this is the first of many drinks for Cooper. A drink from the Well on the first day of class is for good luck throughout the semester.  A drink on the graduation day is for luck forever.

And he finally picked his souvenir.  We had a great weekend.

Until next time.  Go Heels!

The what room?

I asked Cooper for a few minutes of quiet when I got home from work tonight. He told me okay, "I'll just go to my Lego room." Excuse me, now what has he done?

Then I remembered that I pushed his Lego cart in the back hallway to the attic. He has been back there playing for 20 minutes. I love the Lego room.

Does this ever happen at your house?  Please excuse the chewing and the drama at the end.

We hit another milestone

And why are these never positive?

Tonight Cooper was playing with his mini Lego figures.  He is obsessed with these things, which other than the million pieces, I love his imagination with them.  He told me he had to tell me something.  When am I going to learn to whip out the video camera when these confessions occur?

He proceeded to ask me if I remembered that little orange hook that fitted on the mini Lego's hand.  When I said I did, he then said that he no longer could play with it because it was in his tummy.

Oh, help me now. I managed to have the conversation explaining how it would come out with a straight face.  I wish I had a picture of his face.  His eyes were as big as saucers.  At least he swallowed a soft piece that was no more than 1/2 inch long.

When I asked him how and why this happened, he told me he was using a piece's of J's Camelback tubing and was trying to blow the piece out.  Well, that didn't work the way he planned.

I know you are happy there are no pictures for this one.  Wish Cooper luck the next day or so.

Always an adventure

This is the image I saw when looking out the window.  He asked to take off his shirt because he was hot.  And I thought, let me grab my camera to catch this cute pose.  Little did I know that he was singing "I'm sexy and I know it."

I quickly told him that he didn't need to sing that song because the words aren't nice.  What do you tell your 4 year old when they are singing inappropriate lyrics?  I didn't expect this to happen this quickly.

Then, when I told him to get a shirt so we could go to dinner, he came out with this one on because it matched where we were going.  Still so sweet and innocent ... for now.

4th of July - Family Style

He so wants to be one of the big boys with their toys.  Can someone help me here?  Please?

Setting up his own version of target practice.

 A boy can dream.

Really dreaming now from too much fun.

He recovered in time for some of Grammy's coconut cake that he helped her make.

And it wouldn't be complete without some red, white, and blue marshmallows.

 Goofy kid.

We had a busy, low key 4th.  Nice way to spend the day.
