Cooper Moves Like Jagger

Just realized I forgot to share Cooper's awesome moves with everyone.  You can thank me later for using movie magic as opposed to making you withstand 40 minutes of start and stop dancing.  Because you know 4 year olds get distracted by lint, a pie server, their own moves, etc.  So here it is whittled down to 46 seconds.  Enjoy!

Spring Field Trip

This could also be labeled "The Worse Field Trip Ever" or "What Was I Thinking?"

Since it was only his second day at the new school, I thought one of us should be there with him.  Big mistake.  We went to local botanical gardens where the class would take a tour of the children's garden and learn about the attributes of flowers.  He decided it was time to test the boundaries, show off, drive me crazy, embarrass me in front of the parents I had never met before, etc, etc, etc.

He would not listen, get in a line, follow directions, but would run off where he wanted to go and show an attitude.  You get the idea.  I wanted to be swallowed up by the Earth rather than continue this trip.  I got lots of those looks from those parents that I hope meant that they understood that he was in a new surrounding and wasn't always a brat.

I did manage to get a few shots.  There could have been a great Easter photo op, but he would have none of that.

I had to convince him to make the craft project because I knew he would melt down if he got back to the school and didn't have one.

But wait, it got worse.  Because I had to get back in time for a meeting, I had arranged for Cooper to ride back with another parent.  Cue screaming here.  He would not be part of the class picture, but decided to grab onto me and wail.  Fun times.  We got out to the parking lot, and it got worse.  His teacher was holding him back so I could get into the car.  She assured me he would be fine once I left (which he was), but I felt horrible for leaving him with another parent.  Thank you B.

I made it back for the meeting only a few minutes late, after changing my clothes in the car (hope there are no security cameras in that part of the deck).  Next field trip, it's Dad's turn.

Cooper's First Day

Cooper's first day at the new pre-K seemed to be a hit.  He did really well when we dropped him off.  The normal routine of a kiss, a hug, and two high fives for both of us, and he pretty much kicked us out of the room.  When J got there to pick him up at the end of the day, his head was completely soaked from running around the playground with his new friends.

We decided to go out for dinner that night and Cooper started telling us stories about his day.  This one cracked me up when he started telling us about a girl that he didn't remember her name.

"I was playing legos with her. She was on my heart. She wanted to marry me. And she loved me a lot. We played legos and there was a horsey inside the castle."  Out of the mouths of babes.

He's not happy or anything.

Starting a new school

We decided it was time to take the plunge and enroll Cooper in a more formal program.  We were aiming for a pre-k program for the Fall, but they had a slot available at a neighborhood school now so we decided to go for it.  He is in a pre-k for 4 years old for the remainder of this school year, and he will transition to a pre-k 5 program in September since he is a late birthday.

So in getting ready, he had to bring homework in on his first day.  His assignment was to cut out pictures of words that began with the letter S.  After some cajoling with my Mom, we finally got enough pictures cut out to fill the index card.

If all homework takes this long with this kid, it's going to be a long time until June.

Adventures with the cousins

While Cooper was on Spring Break with my parents, my sister and her family kidnapped him for the day.

 Shew whee!!

Thanks Mr. Lee (AKA Pudding) for catching this one for me.

 I really think I'm cool.

For some reason, he is fascinated with peacocks so this made his day.

And what he brought me home for a present.

 More silliness.

 Thanks Tanner for Dinna.

 Cousin love.

 Poochy love.

Thanks Ginger for taking all the great photos.

Have you seen our leprechaun?

We are missing him today.  Have you seen him?

Oh, found him.  He has been captured by his cousins. Wonder what they will do with the little mischief maker.

Wordless Wednesday - When the cat's away ...

We are all taking a little snooze this week, because Cooper is off visiting the grandparents.  What else should parents do when the kid is away?  We are taking Papa's lead and sleeping!

Red Velvet Cake

My Mom has been on a cake baking fix lately.  So when they came to visit, someone had to have a cake.

If he was this excited over the batter, imagine how he inhaled the cake.

Wordless Wednesday - Who loves oatmeal?

Certainly not me, and I definitely was not using an orange marker before breakfast.

Carolina Blue

It's safe to say that we love those Tarheels!

Especially when they beat Dook.  Shh!  Don't tell my Dad I said that (he's a Dook fan).

Running Perspective

At dinner with some friends, Cooper occupied himself by drawing all of us at the table.  AK and I had just taken him on a 2.5 mile walk in the stroller.  We let him out at the end where he ran the rest of the way home.  With the exception of two falls.  I never said he wasn't slightly klutzy.

So, the big one in the middle is his friend Sean and "he is bigger because he is winning in the front. And Daddy is in the back because he is last."  A four year old who understands perspective, this kid never ceases to amaze me.
